The Academy of Justice has initiated another activity under Module no. 2 called “Modernisation of the Prison Service staff training”, which is a part of the “Pilot penitentiary complexes” project.
The postgraduate studies in Penitentiary science for the candidates for the Commissioned officer of the Prison Service rank and Organisational units’ management for the Prison Service officers, which were launched on 30 August 202, create a valuable opportunity for their participants to obtain necessary skills and professional competencies.
In the academic year of 2021/2022, 292 persons started their courses in Penitentiary Science for the Commissioned officer of the Prison Service rank, having passed an advanced recruitment process. During the courses, the students will be taught special tactics, security, penitentiary prevention, as well as interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies. The studies will be crowned with the exam for the first rank of the Commissioned Officers’ corps.
99 officers, representatives of the Prison Service managerial staff, will start their postgraduate studies in Organisational units’ management for the Prison Service officers. The curriculum incorporates increasing students’ knowledge and skills in negotiating, communication, crisis management, leadership competencies, contemporary management strategies, etc.
All of the classes are conducted by highly qualified teaching staff of the Academy of Justice.
Financing
The postgraduate studies are financed by the funds of the NFM (Norwegian Financial Mechanism) for the period 2014-2021, “Justice” Operational Programme.
